Sarah Gould (MA 2000) gets around. A native of Winnipeg, she’s traveled as far away as Madagascar, where she lived in a hut for a year. It was while conducting this fieldwork for her PhD that she first became interested in photography. “It got me in the habit of keeping my eyes open for a good photo,” she says.

An anthropology lecturer at U of T Scarborough, Gould keeps busy with photography, cycling, and documentary filmmaking. She’s currently researching Sakalava spirit mediums and plans to return to Madagascar to make an ethnographic film on the topic.

To improve her photography, Gould has challenged herself to take a photo a day for a year. This photo, taken at Union Station in Toronto, represents day 181 of her mission. “I have always liked the architecture and design of the skywalk,” she says.
